The port of Tanjung Emas is close to the town of Semarang in the province of Central Java.

Semarang is the administrative centre of the province.

An international airport permits easy and regular airline connections within the country.

Tanjung Emas is the ideal port to visit Central Java and the temple of Borobudur (100 km / two-hour drive), in the province of Yogyakarta.

The maximum size for vessels calling Semarang is 325m.

Cruise ships clearance procedure.

Cruise ships arriving in Indonesia should normally schedule their cruise itinerary calling first one of the Indonesian Port of Entry (see list below).

  • In case the cruise ships carries less than 200 passengers, the clearance is granted on vessel’s arrival in Indonesia and the visa delivered to those passengers which are able to get visa on arrival (See list). Enroute clearance is not necessary.
     
  • In case the vessel carries more than 200 passengers, clearance has to be carried out enroute to Indonesia. The cruise operator has to organize it with his shipping agent in Indonesia to have a team of immigration officers joining the cruise ships to the last foreign port before Indonesia. Clearance and visa will be processed enroute to Indonesia. The number of Indonesian officials joining the cruise ship will depend of the number of the number of passengers and crewmembers onboard.


When the cruise operator has no alternative than having the first Indonesian port not being an Indonesian Port of Entry, the second option applies (Enroute clearance) irrespective of the number of passengers onboard.

Only citizens of following countries FREE VISA for entering Indonesia (11 countries) if they are entering via gate ports of Indonesia, but if they are entering via non gate ports, they must pay visa on arrival (VOA) USD 25 / pax - valid for 30 days.

If the vessel has onboard passengers which are not entitled to get visa on arrival in Indonesia and which have no visa, the cruise operator should inform the shipping agent in order to approach and inform the immigration officer at first port entry then asking a visa dispensation as tourist at a cost of from USD 50 to USD 100/ pax.

Israeli passport holders are restricted in Indonesia.

Berthing facilities

Access channel The entrance channel of Tanjung Emas is dredged up with a depth of -10m00LWS while the port ensures a depth alongside of 9m00.
  Situated in front of the passenger terminal and dedicated to the ferry traffic and to small cruise ships.
The pier is long 285m with a minimum depth alongside of -7m00 LWS.
Samudra Pier Situated between the Nusantara pier and the container pier. This is the berth usually dedicated to the cruise traffic. The pier is long 570m with a minimum depth depth alongside of -8m50 LWS. During the equinox tides the berth can be overfloaded; this can be predicted one year in advance.
Container Pier Where container vessels have priority over the cruise ships. The pier is long 490m with a minimum depth alongside of -9m00 LWS.
Other points Cruise ships have berthing priority at the Nusantara Pier and Samudra Pier.
